Florida Kids teeth and oral health care
My son is going on three and I think it is about time he can start trying to brush his own teeth. I mean I will still be there to watch but is he not old enough to be brushing his own teeth? I want him to start young and have really good teeth and oral health. I have taken him to see a dentist and he see one twice a year. I guess my question is am I rushing him?

I do not think you are rushing it. Just start have him brushing his teeth with you. Kids like to do what their parentsa are doing. This way you can also show him while he is brushing if he needs more direction.
Try to keep things light and fun. This way he be more willing to want to learn and do it on his own.

It is not too young of a an age to get started on trying to learn how to brush on their own. Just make sure you still put the toothpaste on his brush and keep it out of his reach.
At that age they will use way to much toothpaste and that is not a good thing if you are using toothpaste with flouride.

My daughter did not fully have brushing her own teeth down until she was four and half or so. She would play around at brushing until then so I had to be with her to make sure she was really brushing her teeth.

Maybe a little. However if he is able to brush is own teeth great but take it slowly you do not want to put him off brushing. I think my son had brushing on his own when he was almost five.
But once he was brushing on his own he enjoyed brushing and he is always brushing his teeth without being told to.

Well all kids do things at a different pace so just do what you feel he is up for. You are the best judge of that. As long as you feel he ready then he is make it fun and enjoyable.
I let my daugher pick out her toothbrush and she really liked that so she has her own special brush she uses.
