Kids dental care, How do you get your child to brush better

Saturday, Jul. 31st 2010 8:20 AM

My son is 10 and he does brush his teeth when I tell him to but not long enough and I am sure not good enough.  I know this since so far he has had three cavities.  Luckly they have been on his baby teeth.  How do I get him to get better with his oral health care?

Dental care for kids, broken baby tooth molar

Friday, Jul. 30th 2010 9:27 AM

My daughter just broke part of her back molar off.   I do not know what the heck she was chewing on but she managed to brake the back molar tooth were a whole corner come off.    She is ten years old and she says she is not in any pain.

Should I wait it out since it is a baby tooth and I do not have the money to crown her tooth since I think that would be the only way to fix it.   Or is there any place I can take her to where getting a crown will not cost me more money then I have?

Dental discount plan, Pregnant with a toothache.

Thursday, Jul. 29th 2010 9:14 AM

I five months pregnant with a toothache that is really killing me.  I went to the dentist to find out what is wrong and I was told I needed a root canal.  I do not have dental insurance and just going to the dentist for what I did cost me a little over $100.00.

I can not afford a root canal and a crown done.  I was quoted $1700.00 total for both.  What can I do? I can not stay in this pain but I do not have $1700.00 either.  Advise please

Kids dental care, Wisdom teeth removal

Wednesday, Jul. 28th 2010 8:08 AM

My daughter is 15 and I was told by her dentist that I may want to think about having her wisdom teeth removed.  They are showing up in the x-rays but are not to the point that they are yet to come out.  Her teeth are perfect right now.

The dentist said there is a chance that the wisdom’s teeth will start to push her other teeth out of alignment.   What is the chance they will do this?  The dentist tells me I have time to  make up my mind but at the same time he said it better to do it sooner then later.

Would love to hear other advise.  Do you always have to pull out teeth that have not even broken though the gum line yet

Dental care for kids, Four baby teeth extractions.

Tuesday, Jul. 27th 2010 9:39 AM

My son has to have four of his baby teeth pulled.   His adult teeth do not have room since the baby teeth will not come out.  Well I made an appointment for him to have this dental work done.  What I would like to know is if my son will be in a lot of pain afterwords?

He will be asleep while he has the teeth pulled but will he be in pain when he wakes up?  Should I only feed him really soft foods?  Any additional information you may have would be good.  Thanks

Children Teeth, What age would a child get braces.

Monday, Jul. 26th 2010 9:34 AM

My daughter is only nine but her teeth were really crooked and I and her dentist as stated she may need braces.  Right now she has a space maintainer in hopes to avoid braces.  If she does need to have braces would that be when all her baby theet are out?  I see no point in putting braces on baby teeth.   Yet is almost seems that is what her dentist is hinting at.

Kids dental care, Crooked baby teeth

Sunday, Jul. 25th 2010 9:29 AM

My son baby teeth are coming in.  He has already seen the dentist about four month ago and everything was fine.  It just more teeth have come out and they do not seem straight to me.  Is this normal?  Or should I take him back to the dentist.   I do not want him to have crooked adult teeth and worried if his baby teeth are crooked will that cause issues to the adult teeth when they start to come in?

Children dental care, Cosmetic procedures.

Saturday, Jul. 24th 2010 9:42 AM

My daughter is seven and got into an accident were she lost four of her top front teeth.  They are just her baby teeth but I do not like that she has to deal with such a big gap.  Also she is talking funny since she lost her teeth.

Could she get a dental bridge until her adult teeth come in?  Or would that be consider as cosmetic dental services since they are only her baby teeth?  I know my dental insurance plan does not cover for cosmetic.  How would I know for sure?

Children dental care, avoiding cavities by cleaning your teeth correctly.

Friday, Jul. 23rd 2010 10:27 AM

This may seem straight forward but you can avoid your children having dental decay by making sure they have the right brushing and flossing habits.  The first step to dental care and good oral health comes from home.

Make sure your children are brushing and flossing correctly.  That means brushing for at least two minutes two times a day.  I suggest that if they have a full breakfast, lunch and dinner they should brush after every major meal.   Your child should also learn how to floss.  Flossing need s to be done once a day.

Now I am not one to say do not give sweets to kids because the fact is tooth decay can happen with any food item if good brushing habits are not in place.  However it is a good idea try and avoid food that can be harmful to tooth enamel.. Food like sour candy, soda, even too many fruits with acids like oranges or orange juice can be harmful. Be mindful of these types of food as they can over time wear down tooth enamel that  helps protect the tooth from decay.

And do not forget the importance of seeing your family dentist at least twice a year.  Prevention is the key to keeping your dental cost low.

Kids dental care, How do I find out the correct ADA code

Thursday, Jul. 22nd 2010 9:20 AM

My son needs to have two fillings.   So I thought at this point since the dentist wants to charge me over 250.00 for just two filing I would shop out getting him some dental insurance.   However I have found out that there is more then just one  price for a filling.

In order for me to know the true cost I am told that I would need to know the ADA code for the fillings my son needs.  Where would I get that from?  Someone most know them since two different dental company told me they could not quote a price without knowing the ADA code for the dental services.  Please advise I do not want to buy anything without knowing what I getting from it.

Dental care for kids, Need a new dentist for my son.

Wednesday, Jul. 21st 2010 8:51 AM

I have a HMO dental plan currently.  Both my husband and I have been seeing this one dental office that is in our plan.  My son is two and I thought it is a good time to make a dental appointment for him.  I just found out that our dental office does not help two years old.

He will not see my son until he is five.  I think that is just too long to have him wait.  I do not dislike that office so I do not want to have to change providers.  Can my son have his own dentist and we keep seeing the one we want to?  Not sure how it would workout.

Getting dental insurance for kids.

Tuesday, Jul. 20th 2010 9:37 AM

What is a good age to get dental insurance for your child?  I do not have dental insurance right now and I am a singal mom.  However my son is going on one.  I think I need to take him to his first dental appointment soon.

I have the money to pay for a dental visit since he really does not have too many teeth right now I can see his dental cost being to high.  However when is a good age to pick him up some dental insurance?

My four year old has three teeth with minor cavities.  I am not sure why she would have so many cavities.  I am with her when she brushes her teeth and we brush them two times a day.   I will be having her get the required filling but I do not want her to continue geting cavities.

If I am doing something wrong then I would like to know how to correct it so that she does not get more cavities.  Advise is welcome

Kids teeth care, getting your five year old to brush

Saturday, Jul. 17th 2010 7:57 AM

My five year old does not really brush her teeth.  She just plays around and acts like she is.  I do not understand why she is like this.  My seven year old son has no problems with brushing.  The only time she brush for the full three mintues is when I am watching her.

I would think by five she should be able to brush without it be an issue every day two times a day.  Do you have any helpful tips that I could try to maybe make her like brushing her teeth better?

Children Dental Insurance, Looking for a good dental insurance plan for my son

Friday, Jul. 16th 2010 9:48 AM

So I was reveiwing your plans you have quoted when I put my sons zip in.  I am a signal dad and my son lives with me for most of the year.  We are in TX and I would like to get a dental insurance plan for him since I do not get dental as a benifit from work.

I really do not care about the monthly cost as long as it is a good dental insurane plan that will be able to take care of any future dental needs my son may have.  It it helps to know he had really good teeth at this point in time.  Can you tell me your best plan is.

Kids dental care, Dental help for baby teething

Thursday, Jul. 15th 2010 8:02 AM

My son is five month old and I think he may be already teething.  This is both my husband and I first child, so we are not sure when a baby will normally start teething.  Though I am also sure my son is teething.

Can a five month old be teething so soon?  He has all the signs of teething.  If so should I take him to see a dentist for his teething issues or his doctor?  My husband says he is too young to see a dentist and I tend to agree with him.  But my son is up all night and most of the day upset and cranky.  Teething rings seem to big for him to handle yet.  Advise please.

Family dental insurance needed, Looking for a low cost dental insurance.

Wednesday, Jul. 14th 2010 9:58 AM

I have one son and two girls.  Between my husband job and mine we make do good enough.  However both our jobs only offer the health insurance and not dental.  Due to this we have not had dental insurance for some time.

That is not to say that we do not go to the dentist only that we have been paying out of pocket for all dental services.  I would now at this point like to get a family dental insurance  plan that is not going to cost us more then $50.00 a month or so.   Can you advise me on a low cost dental insurance plan?

Children teeth, What kind of aftercare is needed for a baby tooth extraction

Monday, Jul. 12th 2010 10:34 AM

My son who is five year old just had three baby teeth removed do to bad dental carries.  He was very good while the dentist  removed his teeth.  However when the dentist was done with the extractions my son really just wanted to go home.

Now I know I should have taken more time to ask the dentist about his aftercare but I was only thinking of my son at the time.  My son needs to go back to the dentist in a week to be fitted for space maintainers.

I guessing his gums will be heal by then.  But since I forgot to ask about the aftercare I am not really sure.  So  besides trying to keep his mouth clean is there anything else I should be doing for him?
