The autopsy report of the five year old boy that die in 2010 show that his death was due to a sedative commonly used to calm young children facing a drill in the dental chair.
The amount of chloral hydrate administered orally to the five year old on April 22, 2010, just before he was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest, was far more than the recommended dosage and caused a toxic reaction, experts said.

Society could save millions of crowns each year if more children were fitted with fixed appliances. This is shown in unique studies performed by Sofia Petraon, a dentist and orthodontic specialist at the Department of Orthodontics at Malmo University in Sweden. Calculations indicate that at least ten percent of all eight- and nine-year-olds in Sweden have so-called crossbite.

Published in the Journal of Dental Research is a report on a preclinical investigation titled “Flagellin Enhances Saliva IgA Response and Protection of Anti-caries DNA Vaccine,” Wei Shi the leading Author at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his team of researchers demonstrate that anti-caries DNA vaccines, including pGJA-P/VAX, are promising for preventing dental caries. However, challenges remain because of the low immunogenicity of DNA vaccines.

According to a study done by the Faculty of Odontology at Malmö University in Sweden, the size of teeth in premature children is smaller than that of children who were full-term. In recent years several studies of children’s dental health have been published by researchers at the Faculty of Odontology in Malmö. Liselotte Paulsson-Björnsson, a specialist in orthodontics, has studied 80 children born before week 33 of pregnancy.

Study done by Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine researchers found the human body is better at fighting gum disease when fat cells, which trigger inflammation, disappear.
The pilot study of 31 obese people with gum disease. Half of the group with an average body mass index (BMI) of 39 had gastric bypass surgery and had fat cells from the abdomen removed. That half fared better than a control group of obese people with a BMI of 35 who also were treated for gum disease but did not have the gastric bypass surgery or fat remove

Published in the Journal of Dental Research, a study titled “MicroRNA Modulation in Obesity and Periodontitis,” University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, Oral Health Institute, conducted a pilot investigation to determine whether obesity or periodontal disease modified microRNA expression and whether there was any potential interaction between obesity and periodontitis that could involve microRNA modulation.

The Faculty of Dentistry at Malmö University due a unique study that shows that when you age your jaws decreases. The study was stated in 1949. Plaster molds were made of the jaws of dental students, who were then in their twenties. Ten years later the procedure was repeated, and in 1989, forty years after the first molds, a final round was performed. On that occasion the researchers were in touch with 18 of the original 30 participants.

a new study by researchers at St. Michael’s Hospital, Women’s College Hospital and the Institute for Clinical and Evaluative Sciences shows, that forty-five per cent of Ontarians 65 years and older did not see a dentist in the last year, increasing their risk of chronic diseases and a reduced quality of life.

New research from Queen Mary, University of London has found that normal bacteria which live in our mouths provide the catalyst for the development of gum disease. This unexpected finding could pave the way for the development of preventative measures in tackling gum, or periodontal disease*, by manipulating the normal bacteria in the same way that probiotic yoghurt works to protect the intestine.

REACH which is located on Commercial Drive, has been providing excellent dental care to those who can’t afford it for over 40 years. With only three dentists on staff, it operates on a fee-for-service basis but offers the procedures at a reasonable cost and, whenever possible, provides subsidies for those who are unable to pay. However, it’s getting increasingly difficult to help those who can’t afford dental care, according to REACH executive director Madeline Boscoe.

Thousand of residents where able to take advantage of the free services offered at the 8th annual day for children Health Fair at Nova Southeastern University in Davie. Children up to age 15 were able to be checked out at stations ranging from dental and vision care to physical and occupational therapy. Visitors were provided with information on resources available to them, including Florida KidCare insurance programs.

on Oct 22nd at Travis Intermediate School, dozens of children said “ah” and stuck out their tongues as doctors gave them free medical checkups, in addition Dentist where at hand to provide free dental exams.

Tooth Taxi provided free dental care treatment to about 30 Liberty Elementary School students in Tillamook. The Liberty Elementary School is among more than 100 sites across the state to be visited by the Tooth Taxi. Tooth Taxi is a dentist’s office on wheels that helps provides free dental treatment to students most in need.

A $90,000 grant from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Foundation will help 500 uninsured children get dental care they need. The grant was awarded to Kids in Distress for it Kid Dental Clinic in Wilton Manors which operates through a partnership with Nova Southeastern University.
