Is dental insurance needed for a New Born baby?
My first child will be born in six more weeks. He is covered under my husband medical insurance now. However we do not have dental insurance. I am not sure if we need to get a family dental insurance plan now for our child or can we wait a few years when he has teeth?

Really up to you to decide. I think most dentist are saying that you should take your child to see a dentist when they cut their first tooth.
Now some people do not see an value in taking a child so soon to a dentist. For me I waited until my son was one and a half. When I had my daughter I did take her in sooner. I say you have at least a six months to a year to choose what you want to do.

I think it is important to take your child to see a dentist when they are first cutting their teeth. Sure the dentist really does not do much the first visit.
However, it start to install good oral health care right from the start. Also if there are any issues with the way the teeth are coming or what they look like finding sooner the latter is better for your child oral health.

I did not take my son until he as three. Though I really wish I had gone sooner. By the time we took him to the dentist he had two small cavities and I did feel bad about the.
You do not have to have insurance to take your child to see the dentist but it will help out on cost. If you get a plan that has no waiting periods then you can buy it as needed.
However if you want a plan that has waiting periods you may want to get it a head of time so coverages will be in effect when you want to start using it.
