Children teeth, What kind of aftercare is needed for a baby tooth extraction

Monday, Jul. 12th 2010 10:34 AM

My son who is five year old just had three baby teeth removed do to bad dental carries.  He was very good while the dentist  removed his teeth.  However when the dentist was done with the extractions my son really just wanted to go home.

Now I know I should have taken more time to ask the dentist about his aftercare but I was only thinking of my son at the time.  My son needs to go back to the dentist in a week to be fitted for space maintainers.

I guessing his gums will be heal by then.  But since I forgot to ask about the aftercare I am not really sure.  So  besides trying to keep his mouth clean is there anything else I should be doing for him?

Kids teeth care, What are dental sealants?

Sunday, Jul. 11th 2010 2:48 PM

Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings that are applied to the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to protect them from tooth decay.  Dental sealants are effective in preventing dental caries in the occlusal (chewing) and other pitted and fissured surfaces of the teeth.  Dental sealants were assessed in permanent molars (occlusal and buccal surfaces in lower molars and occlusal and lingual surfaces in upper molars), premolars (occlusal surface), and upper lateral incisors (lingual surface).

Dental sealants are highly effective in preventing dental caries that occur on the surfaces of teeth that have pits and fissures.  Dental sealants are usually applied in a dentist’s office.  Dental sealants last for 4-5 years and can easily be reapplied by your dentist when they do wear off.  Dental sealants represent one of the greatest, but least known advances, of modern dentistry.

Kids dental care, Do dental wipes really work for new borns

Sunday, Jul. 11th 2010 7:14 AM

My son is only two months old.  So right now he does not have any teeth.  My doctor told me I still need to wipe my son gums after each feeding so that he does not have extra milk in his mouth.  Then when he gets his teeth in I should take him to see a dentist.

So I have been doing as suggested to me by my doctor.  My friend told me about dental wipes and that is what she uses to clean her daughter teeth.  She said they work just like brushing but are easier to use when you are dealing with an infant.  I though you just brush the teeth when the start to come in.  Are dental wipes just as good?

Kids dental care, dental caries

Tuesday, Jul. 6th 2010 9:05 AM

I have a three year old boy.  Lately I started to notice  brown spots on three of his teeth. At first thought they may have been a bit of food and he was not brushing well. So  I started to bush his teeth but the spots are still there.

I made  a dental appointment for my son so I will be taking him to see the dentist about these spots in a few days. I am worried that my son may have dental caries though as a baby I never let him sleep with a baby bottle.  I also made sure he brushed his teeth each day.  What can these spots be if not cavities?

Dental for Children, four baby teeth with cavities.

Monday, Jul. 5th 2010 9:47 AM

So I just found out that my four year old son has four cavities in his baby teeth.  His dentist told me that they are small but filling should be done to avoid them getting bigger.  I told the dentist that I would need to talk things over with my husband and then get back with his office.

The truth of the matter is that I am a single mom, with no dental insurance.  My employer only pays for health insurance for my son and I. Up until now paying for my son’s dental needs were not an issue.

Do I really need to have filling done on my sons baby teeth.  After all given enough time his baby teeth are just going to fall out anyway.  I am asking this because having the filling done are going to be costly to me since I do not have a lot of extra money.

Kids dental care, my daughter is scared of having her tooth pulled.

Sunday, Jul. 4th 2010 10:21 AM

My daughter has a dental appointment to have one of her baby teeth pulled. The baby tooth she needs pulled is not loose but has to be pulled so that her adult tooth will come in.  My daughter is upset that she is going to have to have this tooth pulled and she does not want to get it done

I told her that since it is a baby tooth it will not hurt her all that much and her dentist will do everything he can so she does not feel any pain during the process.  This seems to be okay for now but I would love some additional advise in case things changes when she has to goes to get her tooth pulled.

Kids Dental care, Yellow baby teeth

Friday, Jul. 2nd 2010 8:54 AM

My son baby teeth are just not coming in but they have a yellowish look to them.  I am worried about the color of his teeth.  He had jaundice so I am wondering if that has anything to do with is current teeth color.

I been brushing his teeth twice a day were before I was doing it only once in hopes that would help remove the yellowish coloring.  It so far has not helped.   I am not sure if this his just his normal teeth coloring or if there is something wrong with his teeth.

Kids Dental, I have a eight year old still thumb sucking.

Wednesday, Jun. 30th 2010 6:32 AM

I am embarrassed  that my eight year old son is still sucking his thumb.  Because of his stupid habit I had to have the dentist give him teeth guard so that he does not push out his teeth.   Though I know he does not wear it all the time.

His dentist told me I need to get him to stop before his adult teeth really start coming in or he will need to have braces.   I am at lost as to what to do.  My son know better then to suck his thumb in front of me but he does it when my back it turned.

How do I get him to stop this behavior?  Advise is needed please.

Children baby teeth, My son has crooked baby teeth.

Sunday, Jun. 27th 2010 10:12 AM

My three year old son has crooked baby teeth.  A few of his teeth seems to be straight but it looks like the other teeth are crooked.   He has been to the dentist for a cleaning before but nothing was really said about his teeth not being straight.

However, I did not really asked the dentist about it either so that may be why.  If your child has crooked baby teeth does it mean his adult teeth will be crooked too?

Kids Teeth Care, Rotten baby teeth need help

Sunday, Jun. 27th 2010 7:59 AM

My question is can a baby just have rotten baby teeth?  My good friend baby is just now cutting his first few baby teeth.  However the teeth that are coming out look rotten.  His teeth  are grayish white in color.  She does not know why this is happening.

I told her since she asked for my opinion that she should take him to see a dentist. That I am not sure if babies can be born with bad teeth or bad teeth color.  My sons teeth were white.

If she does take her son to see a dentist will a dentist be able to fixed her son’s teeth?  I would like to be able to get her some helpful information.  Since she is afraid of what the dentist is going to say about her son’s teeth.

Dental for kids, My son has two cavities

Friday, Jun. 25th 2010 9:50 AM

My son when in for his check up and cleaning and the dentist found two small cavities.  I do not understand why he should be getting cavities.  I have him brush his teeth after breakfast and before bed time.

The teeth in question are lucky baby teeth.  However I do not want him to get any more cavities but I am not sure what it is he is not doing.   The only thing he may not be doing enough of is flossing but I do tell him to floss before going to bed too.  Any advise on what I should do to get him into better brushing and flossing habits now so that he will not continue to have cavities in the future.

Wednesday, Jun. 23rd 2010 9:03 AM

I have some concerns about my son wisdom teeth removal.  He is having his wisdom teeth removed in two weeks but I am the one worried.  He will be put to sleep during the process but what should I expect when he wakes up?

I never got my wisdom teeth so I did not have to go though having them removed myself.  Is it very painful?  What should I have on hand?  What is the aftercare ?  Any additional information would be good.
