Prevention is vital to good dental health in babies. Avoid bottle feeding or nursing at will after the first primary teeth erupt to avoid early childhood caries. Babies should not fall asleep with a bottle containing anything other than water. Fruit juices or soda should not be provided in a baby bottle. Offer these types of drinks in a cup and only with meals or snack time.
