Dental Insurance Plans for a Family in Texas.

Saturday, Nov. 12th 2011 8:57 AM

I live in Texas with my wife and two sons and although I do received dental benefits though my job they are very limited and they do not really work well for ys since we need more then just a twice a year cleaning.  My children are good at taking care of their teeth but they are young and I figure they may need to have a filling so I want to make sure I have a good plan that covers basic dental care as well. I a hoping you have something that would be better for all other basic dental care but that is still low in cost so I can afford to get it.

Encourage your child to brush regularly.

Sunday, Nov. 6th 2011 6:16 AM

Good dental and oral health care is first taught from home.  Having healthy teeth and gums are important not to have a great smile but to have long term retention of teeth.

Young children may not have a good understanding of the importance of oral health care that is why it is so important to make brushing their teeth fun and not a chore. Try getting your children excited about brushing their teeth and help them to make it a lifetime habit.

A few simple ways to make bushing fun would be buying toothpastes they like.  Let your child pick their own toothbrush.  They are more likely to use one they picked on their own. Brush your teeth with them.  Showing that you enjoy taking care of your oral health will make them want to copy you.  As your child gets older do not forget to teach them how to correctly floss. Until then floss your child teeth at least once a day.

The group, a division of the nonprofit Pew Charitable Trusts, graded states on eight benchmarks for kids dental health. North Carolina dropped from a C to a D. The decline was driven by Medicaid rates not keeping pace with dentists’ fees.

On the positive side North Carolina did succeeded in bringing dental care to more than half of the children in the state who are enrolled in Medicaid. Two UC San Diego Chemists discover most naturally variable protein in dental plaque bacterium

Saturday, Oct. 22nd 2011 7:30 AM

Chemists have discovered the most naturally variable protein known to date in a bacterium that is a key player in the formation of dental plaque. The two UC San Diego chemists, who announced their discovery in this week’s early online edition of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, say they believe the extreme variability of the protein they discovered in the bacterium Treponema denticola evolved to adhere to the hundreds of different kinds of other bacteria that inhabit people’s mouths.

They call the protein they discovered “Treponema variable protein,” or TvpA for short, and estimate that it is a million to a billion times more variable than the proteins that play a primary role in vertebrate immune systems—the only other known natural system for massive protein variation.

Peptide Fluid is a new way to have Pain-Free tooth Repair

Sunday, Oct. 16th 2011 6:45 AM

In the Medical News Today:  Researchers at the University of Leeds have discovered a pain-free way of tackling dental tooth decay that reverses the damage of acid attack and re-builds teeth.
This pioneering treatment promises to transform the approach to filling teeth forever.

The new peptide fluid essentially is helping acid-damaged teeth to regenerate themselves. It is a totally natural non-surgical repair process and is entirely pain-free too. The fluid was designed by researchers in the University of Leeds’ School of Chemistry, led by Dr Amalia Aggeli. It contains a peptide known as P 11-4 that – under certain conditions – will assemble together into fibres. In practice, this means that when applied to the tooth, the fluid seeps into the micro-pores caused by acid attack and then spontaneously forms a gel. This gel then provides a ‘scaffold’ or framework that attracts calcium and regenerates the tooth’s mineral from within, providing a natural and pain-free repair.

Friday, Oct. 14th 2011 6:40 AM

A recent study shows that  sugar free  lollipops may help reduce tooth decay. Lollipops will not replace your daily dental care of brushing and flossing as well as seeing your dentist at least twice a year.  However it may be another way to help fight tooth decay.

According to a recent study put out by the European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, it showing that sugar-free lollipops that contains licorice root extract significantly reduced the bacteria that causes tooth decay. The study was done on 66 preschool students ages 2 to 5 enrolled in the Greater Lansing Area Head Start Program. Each student received a lollipop for 10 minutes twice daily for three weeks.

The Results of this study showed a significant reduction in Streptococcus mutants, (which is the primary bacteria responsible for tooth decay) During the three-week period when the lollipops were being used and lasting for an additional 22 days before beginning to rebound.
