Your child first dental appointment can be exciting, but for many parents they are not sure what to expect. In general the dental office will gather information from you to determine the individual dental needs your child has.

If you have an indemnity dental insurance plan or a PPO dental insurance plan the chances are you may have a deductible. The deductible is what is changed by the insurance company before they pay for any dental claims. The dollar amount of the deductible can very but normally it is around $50 per person per year. Sometimes if there is no deductible there is an office co-pay each at each dental visit. Make sure you check with your dental plan so you can be fully aware of your coverages.

There are people that do not receive dental insurance benefits though their employers. For those people they have to buy their own dental insurance plan for themselves and their family.
Sadly buying a dental insurance plan often gets put off until there are larger dental issues that need to be address. When that happens they are left trying to find a dental insurance plan that can help with their dental needs right away. (Even though many plans do come with waiting periods.) Another issue is knowing whether or not the dental plan will provide cover the dental care services needed and to what extent.
Try and see a dentist for a consult and treatment plan before buying dental insurance. That way you can shop for the best dental insurance plan that provides coverages for the dental care services suggested to you. Otherwise try buying a dental insurance plan that fits what your feel is your current dental needs the best.

Where in California can you get a low cost dental insurance plan just for kids? I have two kids the need dental insurance but I only want to get a plan for them. Looking for something low cost but will help with the cost of their dental care needs.

People are willing to spend hours on their food shopping in order to get the best price by comparing coupons to five or more stores. However when you talk about dental care needs at a dentist very few shop to make sure the getting the best cost for their dental care. Many more people continue to pay overly high prices for their dental care or worse avoid going to a dentist for the dental care because they feel the cost will be too high.
By knowing the cost of dental services such as office visits, x-rays, cleanings, and fillings and so at a few dental office it will help empower you to seek out more affordable dental care. If you been with your dentist for a while shop the dental office out. This is not say you have to leave but if you find that other dental offices in the area are less expensive, then talk to your dental office to see if they are willing to match cost in order to keep you.
Find out if the dental office has a website. Many dental offices offer savings if you book your first appointment though their website. Always ask if there are any other specials or saving that they are running. If you are paying cash see about getting a cash discount. You may also want to find a dental office that offers affordable payment plan options for the more costly dental services so that you can still afford to have any needed dental care.

If you are wanting to keep your dental cost low then it is important that you teach your kids to have good dental habits at home. I am sure you may have heard this before but flossing and brushing your teeth daily will help you to prevent cavities and gum disease. With proper preventive dental care at home you can prevent larger more costly dental services done at the dentist.

I live in Florida with my two kids ages 5 and 7 they both need to see a dentist. I lost my dental benefits about a year ago and just had not had the time to replace it. Now that my kids are due for their check ups I like to get something started again

You may not be the only one putting off the trip to the dentist, due to the current dismal economy many people are not seeing their dentist as often as the should. In a 2011 survey of dental care affordability and accessibility 77% of Americans without dental care delayed further dental visits due to the cost of care. The survey also shows that 73% of Americans do not even know what their dental care costs.

Right now I got my hours cut from work and I do not receive any dental benefits. My six year old daughter may have a cavity but I can not afford to take her to see a dentist. I looking for either a low cost dental insurance plan I can get for her that will make her dental care more affordable or a dentist that will offer lower cost to low income people

The University of Queensland Children’s Nutrition Research Center at the School of Medicine and the School of Dentistry are looking for volunteers aged two, six and ten years for a new study, which aims to establish whether children may be changing their diets to eat unhealthy food because of dental problems and therefore submitting themselves to a higher risk of obesity and chronic disease in later life.

Recent fatality from a tooth infection illustrates just how the current economic downturn is endangering oral health. In Ohio a man died from a tooth infection that was not taken care of. This man was unemployed and could not afford the antibiotic for the tooth infection left untreated he ultimately die from the infection. There are other cases where children have died due to untreated tooth infections again parents stated it was due to cost.
Unfortunately Delay dental health care or not having any dental care is happening more often then not in the down economy. Many people still see dental care as optional and not very important. However with proper dental care habits at home and having preventive dental care services at the dental office, will help to prevent larger dental issues like tooth infections.

According to a new Duke University-led study, Increased intake of dietary calcium may be key to addressing widespread dental health problems faced by millions of rural residents in Ethiopia’s remote, poverty-stricken Main Rift Valley.
Most efforts to combat fluorosis in the region have focused primarily on treating drinking water to reduce its fluoride content.
The new Duke-led study, published online in the journal Environment International, finds that these efforts “may not be sufficient on their own, because of the region’s geology and the low threshold of exposure at which we found fluorosis was likely to occur,” said Avner Vengosh, professor of geochemistry and water quality at Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment.

Which helps keeps the costs of dental care much lower than those of medical care. In fact, total spending for dental care is decreasing. In 1970, it made up 6.3 percent of total health care expenditures. But in 1991, dental care’s share of health care spending was only 4.9 percent.

The culprit behind a failed hip or knee replacements might be found in the mouth. DNA testing of bacteria from the fluid that lubricates hip and knee joints had bacteria with the same DNA as the plaque from patients with gum disease and in need of a joint replacement.

I am a signal mom with bad teeth issues. I need help in having my teeth look good again. I called every dental insurance company and they all do not offer coverages for adult braces and or cosmetic dentistry which is what I do need in order to fix up my teeth. I can not afford this needed dental care without some help are there any alternative dental plans that can help me with this type of dental care?

A Michigan State University surgeon is teaming up with a Lansing-area dental benefits firm on a clinical trial to create a simple, cost-effective saliva test to detect oral cancer, a breakthrough that would drastically improve screening and result in fewer people dying of the world’s sixth most common cancer.
Barry Wenig, the lead investigator on the project and a professor in the College of Human Medicine’s Department of Surgery, is working with Delta Dental of Michigan’s Research and Data Institute to compile study data and recruit dentists. The study will enroll 100-120 patients with white lesions or growths in their mouths and tonsil areas to test as part of the clinical trial.

Periodontitis (Gum disease), affects more than half of adults and is linked to an increased risk of stroke and other heart problems. In order to evaluate whether fish oil supplementation could be an adjunct therapy for periodontitis, Dr Alison Coates from the University of South Australia and colleagues from the School of Dentistry at University of Adelaide in Australia reviewed evidence from eight unique studies that involved humans.
Their review of these studies showed that improvements in clinical measures were common in all studies, but were scientifically significant in two that used a combination of fish oil and aspirin. Although this is not conclusive evidence, intake of fish oil is recommended for health benefits beyond the teeth.

Cavities in children ages 2 to 5 increased from 24 percent to 28 percent between 1988-1994 and 1999-2004 and is still on the rise. Parents and caregivers should provide a well balanced diet but stop unrestricted, at-will consumption of liquids, beverages and foods containing fermentable carbohydrate which can contribute to decay after eruption of the first tooth.
Provide proper oral hygiene practices, such as cleaning an infant’s teeth following consumption of foods, liquids, containing fermentable carbohydrates. Periodically check your child teeth at home as directed by your child dentist. A baby should have their first dental visit by the time their first tooth erupts or by their first birthday
