Dist of Columbia dental insurance dental care for children

My son went in of his check up and cleaning that we pay cash up front for.  The dentist found two small cavities which as made me upset as a mom that he should have any cavities.  I have him brush his teeth twice a day in the morning and before bed time.

Even though he still only have his baby teeth I do not want him to get into bad habits and start having more cavities and not take good care of his adult teeth.   So I think the problem may be that he is not flossing like he should.   I do tell him to but I do not watch him.  He is eight so he know how to floss

Any advise on what I should do to get him into better brushing and flossing habits now so that he will not continue to have cavities in the future.

You may need to start brushing and flossing with him for a while just to make sure he is doing as he should. Some children just do not know how to floss correctly or find it hard to do so.

When that happens they do not floss as well as they should. You may also want to talk to his dentist about dental sealants. Many kids will get dental sealants to help protect their baby teeth from tooth decay.

Sometimes kids just get cavities even if they are doing every thing they should. He may just have weeker baby teeth if that is the cast the dental sealants done by a dentist may be an option for you.

Other wise I guess you have to start watching your son floss in order to see if he is flossing correctly or not. Some kids take to flossing their teeth like it was nothing while other will have a hard time with it. Watch your son so you can determine if he needs additional help with flossing.
